About the different trainings

AS+K

About the AS+K? About Suicide to Save a Life Workshop

AS+K? About Suicide to Save a Life is recognized in the SPRC’s Best Practices Registry for community helper suicide prevention training.

AS+K? About Suicide to Save a Life teaches community partners and stakeholders to recognize the warning signs, risk factors, and suicidal communications of people in psychological distress. In two three-hour workshops, AS+K? assists community helpers to identify what action to take to support someone recognized at risk for suicide.

The AS+K? workshop provides participants with an overview of

  • Safe messaging
  • Basic epidemiology of suicide
  • The public health approach to suicide prevention
  • Risk and protective factors and warning signs often associated with suicide
  • AS+K? Community Helper Model
  • Role plays to support learning outcomes

Workshop participants also receive an overview of suicide prevention efforts in their state and how to become connected to opportunities to support these efforts in their community. Referral information includes the 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline, other national crisis lines such as Veterans Crisis Line, Trans Lifeline, the Trevor Project, Disaster Distress Helpline, and AgriStress, as well as state and local resources.

ADVISORY

It is important to know that this training involves prolonged discussion about topics related to suicide and may be difficult for some. We strongly advise you consider your participation carefully.  Please note that while this workshop is not appropriate for youth under 18, it is highly relevant for adults working with youth populations.
