I am an outgoing person who is a certified mental health peer specialist and peer supervisor in Texas and a life coach. I have also trained in group facilitation, trauma care, and recovery planning. On top of providing peer support, I am also a public speaker who has spoken at state legislation, Texas Council of Behavioral Health, and more. I am the founder of Peer Hopes, and wish to create a space that all feel welcome and find the support they need and want!
Some more about me,I have been diagnosed as bipolar, manic depression, ADHD, PTSD, alcoholic, and the list goes on as I have forgotten some of it from over the years. I have been getting help since I was a young in some form or fashion. I could tell you about how I never felt accepted, how I thought at one time dirt was more important than me. I could tell you about the depression and grief that set in when I placed my son up for adoption, when I had cancer, or when the person I loved walked away forever. I could spill my guts about my past. I could tell you of the different ways I tried to commit suicide, types of abuse I have had, and trauma over the years! And oh what a novel that would be! Yet, what would you get? Another war story! Another talk about how bad it was or trauma someone else went through!
I don’t care to relive it and I don’t care to tell you of all of it. I am an open book though and all you have to do is ask about my life! There is so much to it, but I don't want to focus on the past and negative. So, what do I want to do?
I want to tell you to stop right now, look up, and know there is hope! That life does not have to stay in the dumps. That there is a new beginning! How do I know? Because I was given one! I am able to say that there are more good days then bad. I see the hope in the day and dreams that become reality. I have worked hard and found recovery and you can too!
How you may ask? Lot's of work, I won't lie! I had to learn to love me, accept me, and grow out of the comfort zone. I had to see that life was not meant to be negative all the time. I had to learn healthy boundaries, coping skills, and so much more. And because of that hard work, I can help you too learn what I have.
Today, I hold a 8-5 job, run this business, have the dream car (OK it was my dream car, maybe not others), learned to live alone and with others, and I can tell you I love life and want the best that it has to offer! I hope this for you too! Will you join the road with me?
For years, I never felt right and life took many wrong turns. I just couldn't get it together and always wanted an exit even if it was permanent. I used alcohol to escape, I would not hold down a job, and always had a dark cloud over me. After getting on the right meds, receiving therapy, and working with my own peer to learn coping skills and other life skills my life changed, I was able to hold down a job, live on my own, and help others learn the skills I was shown. I live recovery and know others can too! It may take some work, but together we can get there!
Being a peer specialist and life coach are one of the most valuable and wonderful things I have ever done. I don't want to be anything else. I learn so much from those that I serve and get to share the journey with them to the road of recovery. I know that the road is not easy, even today I have hard times, but I know that you can still want life now in those hard times. I always tell people look at an EKG, you don't want it flatlining as that means you are dead, but instead peaks and lows. That is how you know you are living and life is that way, you have high days and low days.
So now the question is, how will you let me help you navigate life?
